Envisioning the Future Portal

I worked with BCSA leadership to visualize the future client portal. The goal was to build shared context among the developers, managers, executives and board and to secure funding support for ongoing client portal development.

Role-Based Layout

Since Contractor and Asset Owner users have different concerns, the displayed content is expected to change within a stable structure. On the home page, the items in the main menu and the dashboard modules change based on role.

Safety Score

The idea of calculating a safety score and presenting it to users was to take data available to the organization and marshal it to encourage participation in the safety system.

Metrics considered to contribute to the safety score include:

  • Inspection pass rate
  • Average rating of ‘as-found’ hazards
  • Number of non-compliances found
  • Number of days that non-compliances remained unresolved
  • Number of enforcement actions taken
  • Number of expired permits
  • Number of complaints

The challenge was to present these metrics in a unified display, but also enable each to be read independently.
